David Spade
I listened to his interview on Theo Von’s podcast from May 5, 2025. Always struck me as a delightfully funny personality. Just really like his vibe.
He was promoting his new comedy special on Theo’s podcast. It’s called Dandelion and it’s only available on Amazon Prime (which, hey - I’m actually currently a subscriber of on account of their relationship with Sportsnet for Roku customers and the Blue Jays pending chase for the 2025 AL East championship (I’ll cancel my subscription as soon as baseball season in over)).
Which means I have until about November 5th, 2025 to watch Dandelion.
Anyway, he was fresh in my mind last night so I searched his name on Netflix and another comedy special from 2022 came up. Called Nothing Personal. I watched it and it was a laugh.
Checking out Spade’s Wikipedia today…
I knew he got his start as a writer on SNL and I knew he was on Just Shoot Me (although I never watched that show) and I obviously remember him from Joe Dirt.
I want to re-watch Joe Dirt.
Actually, after I just watched that 10 minute ‘best of Joe Dirt’ YouTube clip I feel I’ve more than scratched this itch. Check out 5:18 with George Thorogood’s Who Do You Love? providing the soundtrack. FUNNY! GOD! I was LOL-ing hard.
I think I need to re-watch Tommy Boy and Black Sheep, though. I was too young to appreciate them my first time around. Actually watched them on a bus to Corner Brook when I was 16. On one of those small ass DRL bus TVs from the 80s. I remember not getting it. So I need to watch them again now that my sense of humour is good and seasoned because obviously these films are cult hits and Spade and Farley are comedy legends.
Since 2022, Spade has hosted the podcast Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey. I did not know that.
I didn’t know that Spade’s joke about Eddie Murphy’s career during an SNL episode is the major reason Murphy boycotted SNL for a big chunk of time.
I didn’t know he had a daughter with a Playboy model. Juicy.
I’m gonna say he might be the best looking white male stand up comedian. His dating record rivals a star athlete for Christ sakes: Heather Locklear, Lara Flynn Boyle, Julie Bowen, Teri Hatcher, and Naya Rivera (per Wikipedia).
I always say good looking people can’t be funny. You don’t get to have it all - and usually a person develops a sense of humor in response to some personal shortcoming - with looks ranking high in mode on that list.
But David Spade is good looking and funny. I really like him and consider myself a fan.
He wrote a book in 2015 that I did not know about. It’s called Almost Interesting. I’ve added it to my Books to Read page. If I ever do get around to reading it I’ll come back and update this post.
