2026 Bonavista Bulldogs Hockey Weekend

The Bonavista Bulldogs hockey weekend is over. It’s my 4th consecutive year playing in the event and this year I intended to document my experience which I’m in the process of doing right now. I’m working on a massive piece - it started as a small thing that has grown into a big thing. The completed piece will be about 5000 written words and a 3 part vlog series on Facebook. See below:

^Draft poster (editing required, but looking pretty damn good!)

The series is called Love Thy Villain - a social commentary on men’s beer league hockey.

There’s a 50% chance I complete the project and a 50% chance I abandon it. So far I’ve written just over 3000 words on it and what I’ve written is really good. However, now the early creative excitement has worn off and serious discipline is required to finish the job. I know there’s a good chance it won’t see the light of day. I hope it does. Hope is such a weak word, Bryan. Tell them what you expect. OK, I will. Honestly, I expect it to die in my drafts folder. To finish will require discipline, but also above average vulnerability, balls, and energy. I’ll need to psych myself up to work it out and further psych-ing to push send. What I’ve done is really good, truly unique, and lots of people will like it (some people will hate it) (most people will be completely indifferent to it) - and now that I’m about 70% done, I’m worried the final 30% won’t live up to the quality the first 70% will set, so this downgrade will reverse-inspire me to quit. I’m dealing with a lot of resistance at the moment. I’m molding the clay and figuring it out. This much I commit to: I will keep you posted.

Here’s a photo of our team from the weekend:
