Momentum Riding
Calendar Junkie
It’s March 12th which means 2026 is 71 days old (19%) and there are 19 days left in the first quarter of 2026 before a fresh new quarter begins.
Resolutions Aren’t Bad
Most new year's resolutions are shit shows by early March because people have low discipline and high distraction. Yet, it's not people and their choices who get a bad rep, it's the concept of resolutions that gets a bad rep. I've noticed people enjoy talking about how stupid and pointless resolutions are while forgetting to mention how stupid and pointless they themselves are. I myself am just an awkward mess because I love NY resolutions and I also love starts and stops of quarters within the year as focus checkpoints. Big “life of the party guy” here. Further, the end of Q1 is especially fun to look at because the year has made its first impressions. Gentle readers: How are the first few bites tasting?
Remember, there’s only one first day of the year. But there are 4 first day of the quarters, 12 first day of the months, 52 first day of the weeks, and 365 brand new days in every year. Each and every first is a chance to re-grip the New Years vibe. A fresh start is born with every new morning sun. How lucky are we?
Theme Watching
Clear themes have emerged in my life over the past few years:
2023 was the year of coming home
2024 was the year of wealth
2025 was the year of celebration
2026 is turning into the year of wellness.
My themes follow similar patterns. I don’t force them, they just happen. I always set goals and I always make observations. But I never force themes. I just notice themes.
Hat tip to the daily struggle. A life full of challenge is a life full of meaning. I’ll be humbled tomorrow. The year I throw out my back. The year Rosemary starts attending drug-fueled field parties. Years and years of facing death, aging, and immortality. How about it? None of those are of the present moment though, are they? Not worth long-pulls on my energy, just the occasional quick hit.
^NL told everyone to “Come Home” in 2022.
^I was one year late.
That Photo of My Luggage from March 2023
I wrote a poem about it called Come Home Year. The poem begins:
Boarded my plane
2 hockey bags that’s it
One with hockey gear
One the rest of my shit
It goes on from there. Later in the piece I talk about how Tony Robbins has a 600 page book about personal finance advice and meanwhile I’m 35 years old and over the course of my life had managed to accumulate 2 hockey bags of material goods. I conclude by asking “What the fuck is Tony going on about? 600 pages?!”
LOL. Probably a bit scattered at the time.
Current Wellness Focus
At the moment I'm focused on what I have to do (actions) to finish Q1 strong and start Q2 with momentum. I've adjusted my 2026 goals and resolutions to account for changes in the weather. Two specific subjects keep popping up: hockey and health. Hockey and health. Hockey and health. I may have begun my wellness era. I know wellness sounds boring but I’m beyond confident it will become thrilling once doused in Bryan charm.
Bonavista Bulldogs Hockey Weekend
Because I mentioned the hockey weekend in an earlier email blast I want to follow up. The weekend is over. It was intense, competitive, and full of joy! I intended to log my experience and I’m happy to report I followed through. All weekend I kept a mental journal which I’m currently in the process of turning into a written journal. When I’m done I’m going to share everything in a massive blog/vlog multi-episode series. To quote Slim Harpo, “Look out now!”
^Bulldogs 2026. Your favourite blogger (and tournament leading scorer) second from the front left. We made it to the championship game and lost in the final 3-2. A truly incredible weekend.
